The reasons for holding a dedication ceremony include returning a favor one has received before, sharing honors and achievements with one's relatives and friends, and consolidating relationships. In addition, people can show off their property and abilities and improve their reputation and social status by holding such ceremonies. Dedication ceremonies are carried out after completion of houses (a main house or a work house) and boats (one-man, two-man, three-man, six-man, or ten-man boats). During the ceremonies, taro and sacrificial offerings are displayed and shared. The Yami people also sing joyously during the ceremonies.
