1.pamacikan夜間釣魚 fishing at night

ko i-panci si cia-i-koa ya am, i-ci-cirawat no tao do

pongso do pa-macikan,

我現在要說的是,有關我們島上達悟族pamacikan(夜間釣魚)的習俗,

What I am going to talk about now is the tradition of pamacikan (fishing at night) of the Yami people on the island,

mi-tarek o ciri-ciring ta  do pongso iya, no m-arew am

i-panci ta  ma-masil, no ma-hep am, i-panci t(a)  or(i) a

ma-macik,

Our island has a different way of saying it (two ways of saying it). We call (fishing) during the day mamasil, and (fishing) at night mamacik.

o ma-macik jiaten do pongso iya am, má-kdeng o i m-among da

i-panci ta   ivey,

On our island, when mamacik (fishing at night), if we catch what we call the ivey fish, it is a very important type of fish,

O ivey iya am, i-panci d(a)  ori no ka-doa-n l-ili a ivay

koan da,  mi-ángay ori aka no ivey, ta yamen Jiraraley am,

i-panci namen a ivey,  sira do Jimowrod a Jiratey am,

i-panci da  ivay,

This ivey that we talk about, other villages call it the ivay. It (ivay) and ivey are the same thing, but our village calls it ivey, while Jimowrod and Jiratey call it ivay.

o among rana ivey ya no vacik-an am, má-kdeng ya i mamong

no máci

   ?

關於夜間釣到的ivey魚呢,它是很重要的魚類;

About ivey fish caught at night, it is a very important type of fish;

ta, manma ya yakan da no ni-k-om-an-so-spa da a mavakes,

o asoy no nia am, ni-apia na, manga ke-ypong,

Because it is the first fish that a pregnant woman eats, its soup is very refreshing and tasty, everyone.

o ivey ya am, i to nopós-an iya ji kk-an, no  aro o

ni-m-among da  ivey am, o ka-raying da sia, abo o om-voka

no kma  i sia a among,

As for the ivey fish, it should be cooked immediately and not stored; if you catch many ivey, you will only kill them, because no one stores this kind of fish.

Note: Storing here means drying the fish out for storage in preparation for days when there is nothing or winter when you can’t go to catch fish. What it means by killing them and not storing them is that the fish can be killed and dried, but it must be eaten fairly soon. Because the fish is very thin and has little meat, it is not suited for drying and storing.

o ivey iya am, i-panci da  ji ngótngot do kakawan a, ji

mapi-zavo-zavoz so kan-en a, a to ma-nizo-cizop so app-apaz

no wawa ito,

This ivey fish, people say that it does not eat the seaweed on the coral reefs. It is not a fish that mixes food, but only intakes the appapez on the surface of the ocean.

am or(i) o panic-an da nia no ra-rakeh a ni-pia sira ya

manma i-yakan no ni-k-om-an-so-spa  da,  or(i) o ya

má-kdeng a i-panci jia,

Therefore, old people say they (ivey) are what pregnant women eat first, the best of the fish. Therefore, it is a very precious fish.
