Conference Hotel

This is the official conference hotel, with a large block of rooms reserved for the participants. It is a 20-minute drive from the conference site. A shuttle bus will be arranged to transport the participants between the hotel and conference site.

The special rate for the conference is NT$3000 (or approximately US$100) per night, single occupancy. To book a room and obtain the special rate for the conference, you must fill out the form (click here) and email it to hthsu@pu.edu.tw before May 25, 2007.

Economy room and board

For those who are especially concerned about finances, we have reserved four rooms, with four twin beds per room, from University Guest Services. The cost is only NT$200 (or approximately US$5~7) per person per night. To book a bed, you must also fill out the form (click here) and email it to hthsu@pu.edu.tw before May 25, 2007. These rooms will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. The university has several good cafeterias available for meals. The average cost per meal is about NT$35-60 (a little less than US$2).

A list of alternative hotel locations is provided here.  However, please note, the Freshfields is the only hotel at which a special conference rate is provided for the International Conference on Austronesian Endangered Language Documentation.

Getting to Providence University

 I.  By plane

Make flight arrangements to Taipei International Airport (TPE). For participants who email their arrival time to hthsu@pu.edu.tw before May 25, 2007, the conference will arrange for airport shuttle service to Providence University. If you do not make arrangements before this time, follow the directions for taking a bus (3A below).

2. By train

A.     Mountain Line
Get off at Taichung Station and either take a bus (3D below) or taxi (4B below) to Providence University.

B.      Sea Line
Get off at Shalu Station, and either take a bus (3E below) or taxi (4C below) to Providence University.

3. By bus

1. From Taipei International Airport (TPE)
   Take a bus (such as the Guoguang bus or the U-bus) to the Chaoma or Zhonggang station in Taichung. It takes approximately one and half hours and the cost is about NT$200. From Chaoma or Zhonggang station, you may choose to go by local bus (2C below) or taxi (4A below).
2. From elsewhere in Taiwan
   Take a bus to the Chaoma or Zhonggang station in Taichung. From there you may go by local bus (2C below) or taxi (4A below).
3. Local bus from Chaoma or Zhonggang station
   Take the JuYe bus going toward Dajia or Qingshui. It takes about 30 minutes to get to Providence University, and the cost is about NT$40.
4. Local bus from Taichung Train Station
   Take the Juye Bus going toward Dajia or Qingshui at Jianguo Road. It takes about 50 minutes to get to Providence University, and the cost is about NT$80.
5. Local bus from Shalu Train Station
   Walk to Juye Bus Station on Zhongshan Rd (10 minutes). Take the bus heading toward Taichung. It takes about 10 minutes to get to Providence University, and the cost is about NT$20.
   　

4. By taxi

1. From Chaoma or Zhonggang bus station
   The cost to Providence University is about NT$350.
2. From Taichung train station
   The cost to Providence University is about NT$500.
3. From Shalu train station
   The cost to Providence University is about NT$150.
   　

5.  By car

1. From National Freeway No.1 (both Northbound and Southbound)
   Take the Zhonggang Interchange exit (178.6 km) towards Shalu. Drive along Taichunggang Road (which becomes Zhongqi Road) about 11 km and you will see Providence University on the right.
2. From National Freeway No.3           

1.      Northbound
Take the Longjing Interchange exit (182.8 km) towards Taichung. Turn left at the first traffic light (about 700m after exit) towards Shalu. Turn left at Zhongqi Road, drive about 4 km and you will see Providence University on the right.

2.      Southbound
Take the Shalu Interchange exit (176.1 km) towards Shalu. Turn left at Zhongqi Road, drive about 2km and you will see Providence University on the left.
