It is the biggest traditional market in Shalu,
located in front of the Shalu Train Station. There
are many special dishes such as, Shalu meat ball,
Hakka salty stuffed dumplings, pork jerky, etc. |

To meet the medical need of central Taiwan, there
are nearly 60 hospitals and clinics here. The
large-scale hospitals include Kuang Tien General
Hospital, Tung’s Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital and
Kuo General Hospital. Therefore, Shalu is an area
with abundant medical resources. |

In 1988, Vedan Cooperation established its factory
here. To respond to the government’s policy that
there should be a library for each township, Vedan
invested to establish a library in Shalu. This
library is named after Shen-Po Yang, the president
of Vedan Enterprise. |

Here in Lu-Liao, there are many experienced
professional tailors. When walking at the commercial
area, you will feel that you are in a huge
department store. |

Bao-An Temple was established to worship King San
Shan. During the Chien-long Ruling period of the
Ching Dynasty, the Hakka people landed in the
southwest part of Shalu. Having become established,
they built this temple for their own ethnic group. |

When talking about the motivation of building the
Jade Emperor Temple, we need to be reminded of the
conflict between the Min and Hakka People. The
temple was built in 1805 to worship
Jade Emperor, who is
commonly known as the ruler of heaven in Taiwan.
Jade Emperor Temple is one of the three and half
historical temples in Taiwan. |

Fu-Xing Temple is dedicated to a local hero, Wang
Xun, who had marvelous feat to protect his villagers
from intrusion of the brigands. Therefore, villagers
in this town respectfully called him “Brother Wang
Xun.” |

The temple is dedicated to Matsu, a sea goddess. It
was established in July 1732 during the Ching
Dynasty to appease the imperial commission in Da-jia
County and to thank Matsu for her protection and
blessing of the people. |

Qian-Shan Ancestral Shrine is a place where some
indigenous people of the plain Tribes buried their
remains. It is associated with the discovery of
the tombs of the
Papora people, a plain
tribe. This confirms that the plain Tribe people did
dwell in Shalu Town (the Salach community)
originally. |

The unearthed relics discovered from the
Nan Shi Keng Relics
are abundant, including lots of pottery pieces,
shells and animal bones, etc. The specialties among
them include earthen utensil which is a container
with the function of steaming and cooking, the
pottery spins which is a spinning tool, agate beads
which are for business use and decoration, iron, and
a big whetstone. |

Turrets and Wang Gao Liao |

Chin Yuen Sword founding Art Museum was established
by Master Tian-Tsi Chen at his own house in 1984. It
is open to the public. The works of Master Chen and
his collections of a variety of old swords are in
display here. |

The
Tunghai Turrets were built in the Japanese Ruling
Period. The blockhouses are strewn at random among
the mountains and the paths underneath are
intricate. Many legends and haunted stories about
these turrets have been spread about to make this
area even more mysterious. |

The
international Art Street near Tunghai University is
located at the border of Taichung City and Taichung
County.It
is a utopia community with cultural artifacts and
art landscapes. The street is decorated as appealing
and elegant with many personalized shops, café, tea
houses, pottery stores and shops selling the costume
of the Tang Dynasty.
